Ecohydrological reference values for groundwater chemistry and dynamics

Details

In the context of ecohydrological studies, it is necessary to know the habitat requirements of the existing vegetation and of any target vegetation (Natura 2000 habitats and vegetation types of regional importance). For groundwater-dependent habitats, the groundwater composition and dynamics are often the decisive habitat factors that determine whether or not the vegetation can develop. However, reference values for groundwater quality and quantity are not yet available for all Natura 2000 habitats and vegetation types of regional importance. This project aims to help fill this knowledge gap. Objectives of this study: Groundwater chemistry Proposal of reference values for nutrients in groundwater: expansion to vegetation types not covered in previous INBO studies, mainly vegetation types not found in the Kempen stream valleys Better substantiate/validate reference values from previous INBO studies or, if necessary, adjust them with a statistical analysis - Make the updated/expanded reference data set available in a user-friendly format Groundwater dynamics - Expand the reference data set with average characteristic groundwater levels (GXGs) for stagnant waters and coastal habitats - Update/expansion of reference values for GXG for other groundwater-dependent semi-terrestrial vegetation based on recent insights into site characteristics - User-friendly availability of the updated/expanded reference dataset
