De impact van de verdeling van het afschot doorheen het jaar op een populatie everzwijnen

Previous studies on wild boar in Flanders showed the importance of achieving a sufficiently high proportion of (female) juveniles within the hunting bag to have an effect on population growth. We complement this with new recommendations: (1) Shoot mainly young animals in the winter months, which has more effect than when shot in summer, or evenly distributed throughout the year. (2) Differentiate a summer strategy, which focuses on intervening where damage is occurring, and a winter strategy, which focuses on population control as efficiently and effectively as possible.
