Details

In 2022, a prioritization was made for the Flemish Region of the invasive alien species of concern to the European Union (“PrIUS” report, https://doi.org/10.21436/inbor.88096226). In this report, species were evaluated based on their invasion stage, impact on different domains, and linkage to the natural environment. This resulted in comprehensive, species-oriented advice on the management of species. The process for an update of the Union list is now being undertaken at European level. Some 20 to 30 species may be added to the list in 2025. If this is the case, the Flemish Region will also have to determine an appropriate approach for these species (in accordance with Regulation EU No. 2014/1143). As a basis for the policy on prioritization and responsibilities, it is important that these added species are evaluated in the same manner. In addition, it is useful to revise the status of the species already assessed in the initial report, based on the most recent data.
