This project provides further scientific support to the policy objective of achieving 10,000 hectares of additional forest by 2030 The role of INBO consists of scientific support at various levels: 'best practice' of forest expansion in function of various goals (ecological, recreational, ...), tree species selection, providing lists of recommended origins, developing measuring and counting systems, ... Many research activities at INBO are linked to this: - research into the climate robustness of species and origins - research into the effects of (future) forest structure and species composition - test plantings with origins and species (common garden); mixed plantings,... - research into technical aspects of afforestation (test sites) - determining carbon sequestration during afforestation of agricultural land (including aspects of wood density, ....)
