Updating reference values for characteristic average groundwater levels

Details
NICHE Flanders (Nature Impact Assessment of Changes in Hydro-Ecological Systems) is a hydro-ecological model that calculates the potential for (ground)water dependent vegetation types in an area based on information on (abiotic) site conditions. NICHE Flanders can be used to evaluate the effects of interventions in water management on groundwater-dependent vegetations. The NICHE tables with reference values for characteristic groundwater levels (GXGs) are applied in ecohydrological studies and appropriate assessments. There is now a better understanding of the habitat characteristics used for groundwater-dependent vegetations. A number of habitats and vegetations are still missing from NICHE as well, such as surface waters and coastal habitats. The objective is to update the available set of reference values for the GXGs and, where possible, expand them based on the latest insights.Status | Running |
