In 2023, 95% of the households in the Flemish Region had an internet connection at home. In 2012, this was 80% of the households. The rise in the proportion of households with an internet connection has stagnated in recent years. The share of households with a broadband connection has been at virtually the same level as the share of households with internet access, certainly in recent years. Figures on households with broadband connection are no longer available from 2022.

Households with children and with higher income have internet access more often

The proportion of households with internet is higher among households with children. While 99% of the households with children had internet in 2023, that percentage was 94% for households without children.

In 2023, almost all households with an income of at least 3,200 euro had internet (98% and 99%), while the figure for households in the 2 lowest income categories was 87% and 91%.

More households in the Flemish Region with internet than average in the EU27

The proportion of households with internet access in 2023 was slightly higher in the Flemish Region (95%) and in the Brussels-Capital Region (95%) than in the Walloon Region (93%).

Access to the internet in the Flemish Region in 2023 was slightly higher than the EU27 average (93%). In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, 99% of households had an internet connection.
