In 2024, 96% of the households in the Flemish Region with at least 1 member aged 16 to 74 had an internet connection at home. In 2008, this was 69% of the households. The rise in the proportion of households with an internet connection has stagnated in recent years.

Since 2024, internet access has also been monitored among households with at least 1 family member aged 16 to 89. In this broader age group, 92% of families had internet access in 2024.

Households with children and with higher income have internet access more often

The proportion of households with internet is higher among the households with at least 1 member aged 16 to 74 with children and the households with a higher income.

While 99% of households with children had internet in 2024, the proportion among households without children was 95%.

Households in the 2 highest income groups almost all had internet in 2024 (98% each), while among households in the lowest income group, the proportion was 92%.

Share of households with internet slightly higher in Flemish Region than EU27 average

The proportion of households of 16- to 74-yers-olds with internet access in 2024 was slightly higher in the Flemish Region and in the Brussels-Capital Region (both 96%) than in the Walloon Region (95%).

Access to the internet in the Flemish Region in 2024 was slightly higher than the EU27 average (94%). In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, 99% of households had an internet connection. Greece scored the lowest with 87% of the households with an internet connection.
