‘Sportspurt’ for more (top) sport infrastructure!
Top sport infrastructure raises both top level sport and recreational sport in Flanders to a higher level. Flanders is therefore making a substantial and rapid investment of 110 million euros in ‘Sportspurt’, a catch-up operation in terms of sport infrastructure.
Modern sports halls, athletics tracks, swimming pools, artificial grass pitches, padel courts, etc. Everyone in Flanders should be able to enjoy top sport infrastructure nearby. With ‘Sportspurt’, we will be investing no less than 110 million euros in sports space in the coming years, of which 55 million euros will come from the Flemish Resilience recovery plan!
How are we going to achieve this? By investing in more supra-local sport infrastructure and top sport infrastructure. Local authorities, sports clubs and sports federations can submit projects for this twice a year from 2021 onwards. In addition, they can (together with private players) subscribe to group purchases for sport infrastructure in relation to themes such as energy, public sports space and unorganised sport. An ideal way to purchase, say, Finnish running tracks or artificial grass pitches at a low(er) price!
The result? Better sport infrastructure, which will make us all engage more in sports and perform better. Just ask our medallist Bashir Abdi, who started his athletics career at the top sport infrastructure of KRC Ghent!
