Certain teaching staff can temporarily work while their application process at NARIC-Vlaanderen is ongoing
Are you a teacher or can you work in education? Have you submitted an application to NARIC-Vlaanderen to have your foreign diploma recognised, but have not yet received your recognition decision? Then you can still be appointed and paid temporarily, even though your diploma has not yet been recognised. Do not contact NARIC-Vlaanderen for this, as your school or educational institution will do so for you. NARIC-Vlaanderen does not issue certificates stating that your recognition procedure is underway.
Teaching staff can temporarily work without a decision from NARIC-Vlaanderen
Since 1 September 2024, teachers and other staff working in education with a foreign diploma (which has not yet been recognised) can be temporarily appointed to positions in education while their application procedure is ongoing at NARIC-Vlaanderen. Whether the application is ultimately approved or rejected is immaterial.
Who can start working temporarily without a decision from NARIC-Vlaanderen?
This measure applies to staff in
- primary education
- part-time art education
- secondary education
- adult education
but also to staff in
- educational boarding schools
- learning support centres
- pupil guidance centres
- inspection and higher education.
What happens if my application for recognition is rejected by NARIC-Vlaanderen?
The provisional temporary appointment shall end immediately, by operation of law and without notice, if the staff member is not granted an equivalence by NARIC-Vlaanderen that satisfies the requirements for appointment to the post to which the staff member was appointed. Neither the staff member nor the centre is required to repay the salary paid.
