Equivalence of foreign diplomas in the 3 communities of Belgium

Do you want to work or (continue to) study in Flanders with a foreign diploma? In certain cases, you have to apply for recognition of equivalence of your diploma. Where to apply depends on where you will be working or studying in Belgium.

There are three communities in Belgium (the Flemish Community, the French Community and the German-speaking Community), each of which recognises the equivalence of diplomas separately.

A recognition of equivalence issued by 1 of the 3 communities in Belgium (Flemish, French Community or German-speaking Community) is not valid in the other communities in Belgium, because there is no legal regulation for it.

So each employer can decide which community in Belgium you need recognition of your diploma from.

French Community of Belgium

Do you have a foreign diploma and do you want to work or study in the French Community of Belgium? If you need a recognition of equivalence of your diploma, you must apply at the NARIC centre of the French Community.

German-speaking Community of Belgium

Do you have a foreign diploma and do you want to work or study in the German-speaking Community of Belgium? If you need a recognition of equivalence of your diploma, you must apply at the NARIC centre of the German-speaking community.
