Validation programme for professional qualification as an interior fitter

What the profession involves

An interior fitter prepares their own work and processes raw materials by setting up and adjusting (woodworking) machines. They process, gather and assemble components for interior elements, attach and connect them to each other or to the shell construction and integrate plumbing and electrical appliances. In addition, they carry out the finishing of interior components with the purpose of manufacturing and installing interior or project furniture such as kitchens, bathrooms and shop and office fixtures, according to the work order.

An interior fitter:

  • plans and prepares in-house work for the production of interior projects;
  • sets up and adjusts (woodworking) machines and carries out basic machine maintenance;
  • machines components using (woodworking) machines;
  • applies cladding/edging to materials in panel form;
  • gathers together the components of interior design projects;
  • treats surfaces of interior elements;
  • assembles and adjusts fittings on interior elements; installs interior elements;
  • finishes interior fittings.

The professional qualification of interior fitter includes the partial qualification of interior project installer.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as an interior fitter at a validation body, you can do so by completing a practical test and a written knowledge test.

The language of the instructions during the tests will be Dutch. You need at least a basic knowledge of Dutch in order to take the tests.

You will be tested on your ability to:

  • plan and prepare the work,
  • make a column cabinet in wood (or unprepared wood) and panel material with a drawer and a base,
  • prepare for the placement of interior fixtures,
  • prepare a worktop, a canopy and a splashguard in panel material between a worktop and wall-mounted cupboard,
  • install three interior elements, including a worktop, a base, a canopy, a closing piece and splashguard between a worktop and wall-mounted cupboard, including a column cabinet, a wall-mounted cupboard and an under-mounted cupboard,
  • finish an interior fitting job.
