Depot Margo
The Flemish Resilience plan of the Government of Flanders can invest EUR 2.8 million in the growth and sustainability of social distribution platforms in Flanders. Among them: Depot Margo.
What does this non-profit organisation do? They call themselves the social distribution platform that increases people’s self-esteem. They help vulnerable people in Limburg get fresh food and maintenance and care products through local support organisations.
Depot Margo also wants to minimise food waste by cooperating as much as possible with various supermarkets who offer them their surpluses for free. They receive a lot of fruit and vegetables, and freeze meat to distribute it to people with a limited income or people with an increased allowance.
Depot Margo would also like to join forces with Voedselbank Limburg to become one centrally located collection point, a so-called food hub. In addition, they want to experiment with a mobile social grocer, the ‘Shop on Wheels’, which will soon travel to the municipalities.
It has to be said, Depot Margo is a new non-profit organisation in Limburg which is bubbling with ambition. The organisation is supported by its partners RIMO Limburg, Vincentius Limburg and Bewel and works closely together with Voedselbank Limburg.
Flemish Minister for Welfare and Public Health Wouter Beke sounds delighted: “Depot Margot has been a pioneer from which I am drawing inspiration for my policy. I have every confidence in their future.”
