An economy that restores nature: utopia or necessary change?

An economic system should promote the prosperity of all without undermining itself by destroying the natural world on which it depends. That is why we need to work towards a nature-positive economy that, besides creating wealth, also protects and restores nature. Such an economy creates new opportunities for innovation, new jobs and supports our food security, all by putting our close interconnectedness with nature back at the centre and embracing it

Of course, this is easier said than done. The rules of the game in today's economy mean that nature often loses out, undermining our prosperity in the medium term. INBO is therefore investigating what a nature-positive economy can look like, and you can help. With our research partners from the project GoNaturePositive!, we have a working definition of what a nature-positive economy is, and how to operationalise it.

We are urgently looking for critical voices who can help us refine the definition further with their feedback. Would you also like to contribute to a nature-positive economy or are you just curious to know how we see it? Then be sure to check out our website, subscribe to our newsletter, or send us an email.
