BIOVAL team wins ENPE-Award

BIOVAL is the tool developed by the European Forum of Environmental Law Judges (Eufje) and INBO to calculate financial compensation for deliberate damage to nature when restoration in kind is not possible. In layman's terms: BIOVAL indicates how much a poacher would have to pay as nature compensation if he kills a siskin, jackdaw or badger, for example.

Interest in BIOVAL is growing. Not only are our environmental judges increasingly applying the tool, but the European Commission and various European member states are also showing great interest in applying BIOVAL.

Professional practice is also strongly encouraging the use of BIOVAL: the BIOVAL team (of which the INBO team Natuur & Maatschappij is a part) won the annual GAIA award for ‘Overall contribution in the fight against environmental crime’ from the ENPE, the European Network of Prosecutors for the Environment.
