Urban Archeology Lab

Eindproef Master Juweelontwerp

Samenvatting

How will urban materials regenerate hundreds of years from now? Can we tangibly foresee the future? The ‘Urban Archeology Lab (founded in 2430)’ is a project that revolves around imagining and constructing the future of archaeology. All the ‘archaeological finds’ presenting here originate from the waste of 21st-century urban industry and daily discards, such as bricks, concretes, sand, and receipt papers. Through the operation of human craftsmanship and advanced technology, these materials begin to intermingle and adhere to one another, developing new textures, and some even seem to come alive as they breathe and release bubbles. At the same time, a novel life form from the land of the city, known as “Urban Lichen” or “Chewing-gum,” is growing within Petri dishes. These organisms are growing beautiful and enigmatic abstract patterns, slowly revealing the spectacle of human society’s past, present, and future. Please come closer and observe these artifacts and organisms meticulously. Within them, you may be surprised to discover how our urban life evolved from the 21st century

and beyond.
