Personal data processing policy Hoppin pilot project
The Department of Mobility and Public Works respects your rights in the processing of your personal data in the hoppin central pilot project. This statement explains how we collect, process and use your personal information.
Who processes your personal data?
The Department of Mobility and Public Works processes your personal data. In this privacy statement, the personal pronoun ‘we’ is used to refer to the Department of Mobility and Public Works. The Department of Mobility and Public Works is responsible for processing your personal data as described and explained in this statement. We only process personal data and we only allow personal data to be processed if it is necessary to provide the hoppin central service. We always process the data in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and with the provisions of the federal and Flemish regulations on the protection of natural persons when processing personal data.
If you have general questions about how we process your personal data, you can contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO) of the Department of Mobility and Public Works by completing the questionnaire(opens in new window). In Dutch, the DPO is known as the ‘functionaris voor gegevensbescherming’ (FG). You can also contact the DPO with comments and suggestions and to exercise your rights.
When do we collect and process your personal data?
We collect and process your personal data when you request one of our services or contact us in the context of the services we provide. This may be when you use the Hoppin app, the call center to request rides, or when you contact us using the questionnaire above.
What data do we process about you?
We process your personal details. These are the data that identify you or that link you as a natural person.
Which data we actually process depends on the services we offer and provide.
- When you create an account through the Hoppin app or request a ride by phone, we process your contact information (name, email address, phone number and optionally your address, geolocation and whether you use a wheelchair)
- When you contact us through the questionnaire, we process the data necessary to answer your question
For what purpose do we process your personal data?
We process your personal data in order to provide a service that you request from us.
On what basis do we process your personal data?
We process your personal data in fulfilment of the agreement with you to provide the Hoppin service.
How long do we store your personal data?
As a general rule, we may only retain your personal data for the period during which they are necessary for the provision of certain services. We therefore retain your data for as long as you use our services. After that, we keep this data for six years.
Do we share your personal data with others?
Your data are mainly processed internally by our employees.
In addition, to provide our services we have a partnership with Via who acts as a processor for us. Via in turn uses the following sub-processors: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Appsflyer, Confluent, Coralogix, Crashlytics, Epsagon, Google, LeanPlum, Mailchimp, MParticle, Reblaze, RedisLabs, Snowflake, Tableau, Twilio and Via Transportation Israel Ltd.
Furthermore, in order to execute the ride in question, De Lijn also receives communication from us about the ride and related contact information from users.
Are your personal data transferred outside the European Union?
We do not pass on your data to countries outside the European Union or international organisations. That means countries or organisations located outside the territory of the European Economic Area (European Union + Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein). We may do so if we use a cloud service provider. In such cases, we will take all possible measures to ensure that your data are protected as stipulated in the European, federal and Flemish regulations.

What are your rights?
You can always review the data we process about you and have it corrected or deleted. To do so, please contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO)(opens in new window). We will ask for proof of your identity to ensure your details are not disclosed to anyone who is not entitled to them.
You can also visit this webpage if you feel that your data is no longer relevant, if you have other questions about our processing of personal data or if you disagree with the way we process your data. How are your personal data protected?
We use multifactor authentication, among other methods, to create your account. Furthermore, we take the necessary technical and organizational measures to secure your personal data to the best of our ability. These measures are also imposed on our processor.
General information
We have the right to change and modify this policy. We always notify changes and updates through a link and through this privacy policy.
