Our mission

The Department of Culture, Youth and Media is responsible for the preparation, monitoring and evaluation of the Flemish policy on culture, youth and media and for monitoring policy items that interact with other departments. As a Flemish government organisation, the Department of Culture, Youth and Media is committed to a creative and open-minded Flanders where everybody is able to enjoy culture, each in their own way.

Our actions are aimed at establishing culture as the DNA of society, in a way that is accessible to all.

We pursue a rallying and forward-looking sectoral policy built around the intrinsic values of culture and media independence as its cornerstones.

We operate as partners and galvanisers of our field of operation and work in tandem with other policy areas, local authorities and stakeholders from within as well as outside the Government of Flanders.

We create opportunities for the stakeholders by delivering quality tools and levers.

Professional development, customer centricity and involvement are at the heart of our staff’s endeavours.

We adopt an outward looking focus by acting in response to social and international developments, whereby we consistently challenge and refresh our own methods of operation.
