The art of mediating between people and the environment. The role of commissioned art in socio-ecological transitions
This report discusses the results of a participatory research project on art as an approach in dealing with socio-ecological transitions.
The publication is the result of a research project conducted by UHasselt, commissioned by the Department of Culture, Youth, and Media (Platform Kunst in Opdracht) and with the cooperation of the Flemish Land Company (VLM). The central question is “How can organisations use art as an approach to contribute to shared understanding and action regarding socio-ecological transitions, with the most diverse group of actors possible?”.
Using a participatory process with participants from different sectors and 16 inspiring cases, a whole range of insights were distilled. In addition, this publication is accompanied by a manual that serves as a guide for future commissioners.
